Books I wish I read when I was young

(Children’s books I wish I read as a kid, books I wish I read earlier in my life but glad I still read them eventually)

If you still read, you’ve been there. If you’re still young (or young at heart), you’ll want to know what to read next. And when you find a book that speaks to you, you’ll wish you had read it before.

If a book bores you, leave it; don’t read it because it is famous, don’t read it because it is modern, don’t read a book because it is old.

If a book is tedious to you, don’t read it; that book was not written for you.

Jorge Luis Borges

I read a lot. And often I have a hard time finding books that suit me. That’s because I only want to read certain things.

Here’s what I like to read. Each book must:

  • Be fun
  • Be funny (which is not the same thing)
  • Not have mature themes (romance can be great, but lust, or graphic violence or swearing just turns me off)
  • Be engaging (I want to enter the book’s world, oterwise it’s like watching a bad movie)
  • Not have gritty realism (fantasy, sci-fi, magic all good)
  • Have action (every read a book that was all talk?)
  • Can be re-read, again and again and…

If my preferences strike a chord with you, read on. If not, like Borges advises, this blog is not for you.

Because I found it difficult to find book I like, I assume others have the same problem.

These reviews are for you. And they’ll also show you what my books are like. Welcome.
